What does acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture is best known for its ability to relieve pain specifically head, upper and lower back, neck and joint pain. However acupuncture is effective in treating digestive issues, urogenital disorders, menopause, PMS, infertility, sexual dysfunction, hypertension, respiration disorders, depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia and many more common health problems. In addition there are treatments for addiction like alcohol, nicotine and drugs as well as beauty treatments such as facial rejuvenation and cellulite treatment.
How often will I need to come?
This is a complex question that has to do with your individual case, medical history, lifestyle and goals, and other therapies you are using. Acupuncture engages your body’s own natural healing ability, a process that is often gradual and incremental, or even cyclical. There is a clear cumulative benefit to acupuncture treatment in aiding this process – meaning, you are most likely to experience its benefits through repetition. Acupuncture can sometimes have immediate and dramatic results, but to give acupuncture a “fair try,” come at least 3 to 4 times, about a week apart, to see if your healing response starts to kick in. And while a case of moderate severity usually sees improvements within 3-5 weekly treatments, additional following-up, at varying intervals, may be helpful until you reach your healthy goals after which, come only as needed.
What should I wear to my appointment?
It’s a good idea to wear loose clothing so that the acupuncturist can easily reach the points. It also aids in the relaxation needed for healing. Read more about how to prepare for your appointment.
